Formalism

Formalism usually refers to a tendency in literary and artistic creation. It emphasizes the independence of the aesthetic activities and the absolutism of the art form. It is not content determines form, but form determines content, thus negating the meaning of content and separating the connection between form and content, art and reality. Formalism of literary and artistic theory originated in the first decade of the last century. This literary and artistic trend of thought not only greatly influenced the abstract and non-reproducible modern art movement, but also directly promoted the emergence of structuralism and symbolic aesthetics. Formalism literature theory is of great significance to the development of modern structuralist literature theory and semiotics. From a semiotic point of view, the external form of art works is the only scientific basis and reliable information for people to recognize their inner meaning. Formalism integrates literature and literary works, making literary works the most important aesthetic and poetical concept in this century, which undoubtedly touches the acceptance of aesthetics and thus get develops.

In the western modern aesthetics of the early 20th century, the sudden rise of formalism aesthetics had a great influence on the western modern art revolution. Formalism emphasizes that the formal factors of art have independent aesthetic significance, and takes the formal structure of the text as the core of art.

In fact, I originally wanted to discuss Paul Cezanne, but I suddenly found that the work of a modern artist interested me even more, which is interesting and also an expression of a formalistic aesthetic.Lynn Aldrich was born in 1944 and is an American sculptor.

Lynn Aldrich's work is marked by poetic shifts in discovering or misappropriating material, creative form, and uneasy eclecticism. Her works are diverse, absorbing a wide range of cultural influences, using various materials, such as: the fusion of everyday necessities and artistic aesthetics, using a lot of wall buildings, water pipes and plastic sponges. She creates her work by accumulating repetition and superposition, retaining the identifiability of the original material in the process while revealing and criticizing the unrestrained excessive consumption.
